Liza

how did you leave amy grant out of this list?! she's gotta have one of your faves!

p.s. britney (i think) had a decent hit back in 2001...what the hell was it?...

Melanie

Aside from not wanting to mention my former Amy Grant fandom online, I was thinking more of radio and retail play. I do like the Amy Grant for more reflective Christmas moments, but not necessarily as a soundtrack to festivities. Yeah, okay, I said it.

As for Britney, I don't know. I'll have to look it up.

I forgot that Beach Boys CD was the first of that technology we ever owned! Merry Christmas Santa still rings in my head sometimes! Any love for that tape, bought at a gas station and always played in the car on our rides looking for "light alerts"? I seem to remember Harry Belafonte and Bing Crosby crooning to us on many a ride around town!

I vote "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)" by Nat King Cole, these three standouts from the "A Very Special Christmas" compilation, and the most maudlin of all, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas."

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) - U2
Merry Christmas Baby - Bruce Springsteen
Christmas In Hollis - Run DMC

Melanie

"Have yourself a merry little Christmas" always makes me think of the Sesame Street special and Bert and Ernie's Gift of the Magi dilemma. Maudlin yet endearing indeed.
